THOMAS CARTER (Anthony Mackie) is driving home drunk with his brother, when he crashes his car, putting himself into a coma. He turns that near death experience into a valuable lesson, becoming a respected author and personal therapist.

At a book signing, Thomas meets ANGEL (“Forest Whitaker”), a man in emotional turmoil over the mysterious death of his Mother. Angel’s life has fallen apart since her death. Once Thomas agrees to work with Angel to help him heal and turn his life around, he realizes Angel is too emotionally disturbed and informs Angel he can no longer work with him. However, Angel has other plans. Guided by the spirit of his dead Mother, Angel suspects that Thomas and his family may have been involved with her death.
